Conta-se que a rainha portuguesa foi a responsável pela invenção da caipirinha, mandando, pois, misturar frutas com cachaça para fazer compotas e ingerindo litros da mistura com gelo para se refrescar. Documentos mostram que a lista de compras da cozinha do palácio onde vivia era encabeçada por imensas quantidades de aguardente de cana.
Atualmente há uma tentativa de resgatar a figura história de Dona Carlota Joaquina através de sua atuação política.
